Teacher Training

Train to teach with SUPA

Thinking of training to teach?  Train with SUPA Salisbury.

Are you, or do you know someone who is interested in training to become a secondary school teacher?

What is SUPA?

Southampton University Partnership Alliance.  Wyvern St Edmund’s Learning Campus is pleased and proud to be working with Southampton University and schools in our local area to provide high quality teacher training in high quality schools.

The schools that make up SUPA Salisbury are:

Avon Valley College

Bishop Wordsworth School

South Wilts Grammar School

Wyvern St Edmund’s Learning Campus (Wyvern College and St Edmund’s Girls’ School)

St Joseph’s Catholic School

The Stonehenge School

The Trafalgar School

Why choose this route into teaching?

Firstly, it gives you a ‘best of both worlds’ approach in that you get a link with a local school for the year combined with access to the full 60 days of ITT training offered by the University of Southampton

At the university you will receive a mixture of

  • Curriculum days – where trainees work with subject specialist tutors and groups of subject specific trainees.
  • Professional themes days, on whole school topics, delivered by a host of guest speakers who are specialists in these areas.

Each SUPA trainee will have a home school, this would normally be decided by the SUPA group of schools in June.

As a trainee you will spend the first 2 weeks of term in September in your home school and so will be included in all staff training and induction for new staff.  Following that you will join the university led course and receive a mixture of training and teaching experience (including a long block of teaching in a different school) in the term to Christmas.  From January to the end of May you would be back in your home school for the second, longer placement.

The pre-Christmas placement will be in a contrasting school and organised by the university in consultation with SUPA, when necessary – the benefit of this is that it provides access to all our partnership schools – so that we can find the best contrasting placement for trainees as individuals.  Please also be aware that it is a statutory requirement that all trainees teach in two schools therefore, trainees will have to complete a second placement whatever route you select.
