Every student at Wyvern College is offered the opportunity to learn the basic skills of practical cookery at KS3. Students at KS4 may opt to take this further and study for the Hospitality and Catering GCSE offered  both here at Wyvern, and also as part of the Laverstock schools collaboration.

Students will learn basic Health and Safety rules in year 7 before commencing their course for the three years, learning everything from preparing a fruit salad to designing and making burgers, creating pizzas and making pasta from scratch. Students are able to master many useful culinary skills by the end of KS3 and can use a range of kitchen equipment. The GCSE course is a popular option and this aims to provide a stepping stone to industrial apprenticeship within the Catering field of work. This is largely a practical course where students learn to create and present dishes from around the world. All aspects of the Hospitality industry are covered in theory classes  and as this is an industry currently employing 1.9 million people, the opportunities for exciting future employment are worldwide!
