Key Stage 3

At Wyvern College we aim to introduce students to a wide range of learning opportunities. We want to develop the students’ physical competence in a variety of activities and develop on their personal and social skills which will form a central part of their lives in and out of college. In doing so, they will develop physical fitness, practical skills, co-ordination, knowledge and understanding. The PE curriculum will encourage fair play, teamwork, resilience, independence and develop self-confidence. These aims will be met through a range of activities which is the basis of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 3:

  • Outwitting opponents
  • Accurate replication
  • Performing at maximum levels
  • Exercising safely and effectively

These will be taught through a range of sports where these key processes will be learnt and assessed as through the basis of physical, personal and social skills:

  • Developing skills in physical activity
  • Making and applying decisions
  • Developing physical and mental capacity
  • Evaluating and improving

Making informed choices about healthy, active lifestyles

Key Stage 4

The Key Stage 4 curriculum involves building on knowledge and skills developed in Key Stage 3 as the students undertake GCSE PE. The practical syllabus will focus on applying technical skills at higher level and developing tactical awareness. The students will also follow a theory programme developing and applying their knowledge and understanding of the theory of Physical Education. Assessment will be formed from a combination of 3 practical activities, a personal training programme and analysis in addition to written examinations.
