The English Department
- Mrs Nicola Burke (Head of English and Associate Senior Leader)
- Ms Melanie King (English teacher)
- Ms Tam Warman (Teacher of English)
- Mr Nick Hawker (Intervention/Literacy)
We are a department of three full-time, specialist and experienced members of staff and a part-time highly experience literacy/intervention worker. We all share the same vision: to engage, enthuse and envelop a passion for English Language and English Literature.
Our curriculum map is designed to develop and challenge students’ language and literature skills from year seven. Students will be incorporating GCSE language skills through the teaching of Cannon Literature texts throughout key stage three in order to: engage, motivate and raise levels of achievement in the core skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. This will install confidence and competence in the final year eleven examinations and thus allow students to meet or exceed predictions. The units are theme based to incorporate didactic and deep thinking teaching and learning.
We also strive to encourage a desire for independent learning and students will engage in a range of curriculum related enrichment activities, visits and trips to enhance and promote their passion for Language and Literature outside of the classroom.
The English department is a committed and highly motivated team with a personal interest in every boy’s highest achievement in our unified vision for success.
