Our Curriculum

Wyvern College is a small school, with small classes that provides a wide range and breadth within and across its curriculum. This is supported and extended by our collaboration at key stage four with St Edmunds. We are a small school in which we aspire to meet every individual’s needs, with our curriculum focused on areas of historic teacher strength as well a focus on the areas that boys have traditionally performed well in, supported by excellent facilities in technology and PE.

There are a range of methods used to define groups at Wyvern depending on the subject and the most effective way to ensure rapid progress within the lesson. This also ensures that students work with a range of other throughout their working week

Ability – students are set based on their ability within that subject

Streamed – students are set based on their ability across a range of subjects

Mixed Ability – students are not set on ability

Many of year 11 also receive individual adaptions to their curriculum in order to ensure that the curriculum on offer to them provides them with the best opportunities to achieve available to them as an individual

The curriculum is also enriched, extended and accelerated through 6 curriculum acceleration days per year

Where suitable in key stage four students are also offered alternative provision at a range of providers to meet individual needs

Following the elimination of national curriculum levels, Wyvern has developed a system of assessment at key stage three that focuses on mastery and trajectories for success. Each subject has dissected the building blocks for success and used this map an integrated curriculum and assessment methodology that drive high achievement and deeper understanding.
